Countdown to relocate historical markets to Dagenham Dock begins
Dagenham Dock is one year closer to welcoming two of London's most historical and iconic markets, Billingsgate and Smithfield. Both markets will eventually move to a purpose-built site in Dagenham as part of a £1bn regeneration plan, which is expected to open between 2027-2028.
The City of London Corporation announced plans in 2019 to move Billingsgate, Smithfield and New Spitalfields Market to a new site in Dagenham. However, only Billingsgate and Smithfield are relocating to Dagenham after plans were approved by the City of London Corporation in November 2022.
New Spitalfields Market will remain in its Leyton home for the time being, but could join Billingsgate and Smithfield later on.
